I just heard upon waking up that Mike Turner passed away last night... damn he was well loved. Mike was honest to god the nicest guy I have ever had the opportunity to meet.
My best friend introduced me to his work in Witchblade back in 2001 and all I could think about was meeting him -- but I was intimidated. When I finally met him at SDCC 2005 I was blown away. He was incredibly nice, and so willing to help others. He taught me to use a 2mm drafting lead that year.
He always had a smile on... he seemed so invincible. He was my hero, and not just for his artwork. I can't imagine the pain that his family is feeling right now. He was well loved and will continue to be....
Rest in peace Mike. I trust you know how you inspired us all.
Ronin Studios in COMICS WEEK!
Comics Week here on DA, part of Project Educate, started on Monday. This coming Sunday, there will be an article on myself and Ronin Studios, as well as a featured chat with myself and ~dustin-archibald! We'll be there to talk about breaking into comics, doing your own thing, how Ronin Studios works, and other topics you might be interested in. So if you have any questions, that is a great time to ask them!

SAN DIEGO COMIC CON and Drink n Draw 2008
SDCC 2008 is only about a month away.... time to pencil this in!
After last year's astounding Drink n Draw dinner and events (we ended up doing it TWICE!) I'm going to make it a tradition!
TIME: Friday July 25th at 7:30/8:00pm (to grab tables). For those of you that voted Thursday night, I will probably be there Thursday night too.
PLACE: The first floor bar of the Hyatt --- not the Redfield's bar, the other first floor bar that had actual tables and proper chairs.
WHAT TO BRING: Your sketchbook(s), drawing tools, etc.
The Drink n Draw dinner:

This year's Drink n Draw dinner will be at the Pacific Fish Company restaurant in the Embassy Suites hotel (2-3 blocks from the convention center - one block further than the Hyatt hotel) at 5:30/6:00pm on Friday July 25th.
This restaurant serves seafood fare along with steaks, chicken dishes, and I believe burgers as well. It also serves sushi -- the PFC also has a lounge and sushi bar across the hall from the restaurant, so customers can order sushi delivered to their table.
PLEASE RSVP with me by Preview night! I need to know how many people are coming so that I can make the reservation.
For those that wanted to go to Little Italy for Italian fare at Filippi's like we did last year: A group of us will be going on Wednesday before or after Preview Night (not sure yet).
4 day passes and Saturday passes have sold out for SDCC 2008 and there will be no on site badge sales.... get your passes now!
