It won't even run Photoshop anymore (as of last week).
I had it built in 2003, and back then it was the kind of affordable graphic design machine I needed to do my art. Now I can't even back up anything that's still on my hard drive since I got rid of my old burning program in favour of a newer one -- which does it at a faster speed than my drive can read (so I wasted 5 DVD-R's last week lol). Plus my Windows XP is on it. Ugh not even touching Vista.
Thankfully my laptop still runs my Photoshop. But it's uncomfortable to use for long periods of time (even though I still do it haha). I've been using it for a long time to send files out and stuff since my card in my PC is really old (2003 as well haha).
I don't know what to do about a new one -- where's a cheap place to have it built, and what sort of specs/parts should go into it. I'm no techie

PLEASE NOTE THAT MY ART IS OFF-LIMITS TO COLOURING WITHOUT A REQUEST FOR PERMISSION. PLEASE REMEMBER TO *ASK* ME IF YOU CAN COLOUR SOMETHING AND I WILL GET BACK TO YOU. I MUST DO THIS BECAUSE SOME OF THE LINEART (pertaining to my inks) IS NOT PERMISSIBLE FOR OTHER COLOURINGS. THANK YOU!
Note: Please avoid spamming my user-page with 'you've been kissed'- or 'you've been hugged' and other chain letter related comments. I really don't appreciate it, thanks.

So far I haven't had any problems with them and half the graphics department at the newspaper I worked for bought everything from them ^^
Good prices too!

2 - 4 GB of Ram
250 - 500 GB of hard drive space
at least a 256 MB graphics card But you're way better off with a 512 MB especially if you have a tablet.
the rest is window dressing and extras but a nice monitor and good burner never hurt. As long as the extra cost isn't insane the more ram and bigger HD the better and will help prolong the next replacement.
Also in case you didn't know because you are in Canada, you can claim the computer as a business expense on your taxes as long as you're claiming your freelance pay and filing a business claim. So you'll see a good chunk of that money back come tax time.
