This is a small, really easy tutorial that I put together for ~Newsonn to show how I started to learn to colour in Painter (I use 8.0). ~rebeccasx showed me when I was over there back in 2004, and now I'm up to colouring with 4-6 different shades when I paint. But 3 is the basic and doesn't look too bad to start out with.
The image I used for the tute is a Lara Croft pic that ~rocbottom drew for me way back then, and he gave me permission to make the tutorial with it since I wasn't really colouring much else at the time.
I know there's a lot more complicated and brilliant tutorials out there, but I find they can be too hard to start out with.... better to start out easy and work your way up. That's also why I didn't post this, there's so many things out there and I bet there's ones like this floating around.
Anyhoo... here ya go. Click Download to Desktop to save the 4 step walkthrough, and I hope it helps.
If you want, check out some of the coloured stuff in my gallery and scraps like [link] because the few things I've coloured, I did from this method
EDIT: If you don't have a version of Painter, try out the blur tool in Photoshop, it may help. The reason I use Painter is mostly because Photoshop doesn't have any proper blenders, and you have to rely on changing the opacity of brushes to create a sense of blending colours, which has been hard for me since I don't have the time to practice a lot.
ANOTHER EDIT: If you're really new to Painter, to find the Blenders simply click the brush tool then go to the brush menu, which can usually be found in the upper right hand corner (Painter 8). Click and scroll to find the type of brush you're looking for, and you'll find Blenders, then pick a subtype of that brush.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
