March 4-6th 2011 at Emerald City Comicon in Seattle, WA.

Artist alley B-07.

Tadaaaah! Card 1 in the Under Control limited edition set of 4 pinup girl trading cards :D

The original art is on 9x12 Strathmore bristol. I inked it with Copic Multiliners and brush. I also did something I never do... I put shadows in. I just went in with the brush. I'm trying to push myself so it was an experiment for me.

With this card I pay respects to the lovely ~DaneHalo, who inspired me. We wanted to work together again so I used her likeness for the face and hair of this particular pinup girl (tried to get her lovely body too).

The AMAZING colours are all thanks to my kickass partner in pinup art, the ever awesome Simon Gough!

Boy I'm going to run out of adjectives before I unveil any of the other cards....

Thanks :D This one is based on a local pro model I'd drawn before, wanted to do something a little wild with her :D

I haven't been to Seattle's convention but I live over in the tri-cities. How do you like it? Do you sell much art there? Once I get to making more art I will start selling them at conventions but the cost to just get started is a bit daunting.

I LOVE IT -- ECCC is my favourite convention to exhibit at so far :D I do really good with my prints, the trading cards were a miss since they're so small a lot of people didn't see them at first.

Its really not an expensive show - if you need to get a hotel, the con is right in the downtown core which is also the hotel district (easy to find a good hotel for $100/night or there's a good hostel down by Pike Place Market for like $30/night for single travelers). If you're flying in, there's the light rail straight into downtown from the airport for like $2.50. Being downtown, everything is within walking distance and the public buses are free in the core. And there's a Fedex Office in the lobby of the convention center, I save overhead by only printing like 15-20 of each print to start with, and then I put some of the early sales back into printing more if I'm running low on any (takes 1-3 hours to get stuff printed). It not only keeps my start-up costs low, but then I don't risk being stuck with dozens of prints that have to make the trip home without being damaged. And the artist alley table cost isn't bad - its the most affordable show I do. But it fills up fast.

Thanks for the info. I am not actually a comic artist but would sci-fi and fantasy prints fit the theme okay over there?

Oh most DEFINITELY. Comic cons do have a lot of fantasy and sci fi art, not just comic book art :D I think you'd do well. If you've never exhibited at a comic con before, you might find it starts off slow for you because nobody has seen you there before. But once they do, they will start to look for you every year at whatever shows you decide to do. That's where having new items every year comes in handy (like adding a new print for a show, or a sketch or art book, other goodies like bookmarks etc).
